Nicki Minaj is not just an artist, she is an icon!  She has brought to life the "girly" aspect of hip hop music with her outrageous outfits and hairstyles, as well as her "cutesy" lyrics.  

“Say my shoe game nuts, so I call ‘em cashews.”

She is even loved for her sometimes not so nice lyrics.

“Nicki Minaj is who you ain’t f-ckin’ with.”

It all began when she was discovered by rapper Lil Wayne who is in charge of Cash Money Records.  He saw Nicki's talent and asked her to join the rap group Young Money.  This helped Nicki to become the female face of hip hop instead of just being another rapper.  Their first single, "Bedrock" put her name on the map!  Pretty soon everyone wanted more of Nicki.  Before we knew it she was featured on everyone's records.  She worked with artists like Trey Songz, Kanye West, Drake, Sean Kingston, and many others.  But it wasn't until November 19, 2010 that her album Pink Friday was released.  Her solo album has earned her several awards including BET, MTV and Billboard awards.

 

Nicki Minaj also has one of the largest base of devoted fans.  They are called "Barbies" ( or Barbz) and the males are known as "Ken Barbz".  I have to admit that I would consider myself a Barbie.  These fans are die hard Nicki fans!  They follow her to concerts, know all lyrics word for word, and even follow up on her Pink Friday website.  This site is the Mecca for all things Nicki! You can follow up on tour news, download songs, look at pictures and even shop her store.  Pink friday is even an App in the Apple store that you can purchase.  

What makes Nicki Minaj so great?

She loves her fans!  Nicki is always using  Facebook, Twitter and her web page to connect with her fans and thank them for their constant support.  I personally think it's awesome when celebrities take time out for those who made their fame happen.  without the fans, there wouldn't be this success.  

Also the fact that Nicki is origianal.  The music industry today is filled with pop artists that sing the same type of songs with pointless lyrics.  They typically have the same look or try and copy others.  NOT NICKI! She is a trend setter.  The first thing you may notice are her outrageous wigs.  They have been, pink, green, blue, orange and even multi-colored!  She also sports skin tight bodysuits with bright funky patterns.  But don't let this fashionista fool you.  She may look sweet, but her alter ego "Roman" in not so nice.  Roman represents Nicki's rough, raw and cocky side.    “Roman’s a little gay boy who lives in me. And every time I talk he sort of just appears and I tell him, ‘Roman, you know, stop it, you’ve gone mad, I tell you, mad.’ He’s an outlet to say what I need to say but sometimes don’t want to.”

— Nicki Minaj       With lyrics like "If she ain't a Nicki fan, then that b--ch deaf dumb" shows the more confident side of  Nicki as an artist which most find refreshingly honest.  This is a trait people look for in artist.  Not nessisarily bragging, but saying the truth.  The best part about it is that she is still so humble to her fans.
